Its International Women’s Day, 2025, and My Flow Foundation-Ke recognizes the power of education in transforming the future of girls globally. Acquiring education is very vital because it aids in breaking cycles of poverty, encourages gender equality and pushes girls to discover their full potential. Despite the efforts that the government has put across over the years, there are millions of girls still unable to access quality education. Obstacles like poverty, early marriages and inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products continue to limit their opportunities.
At My Flow Foundation, we believe that educating girls is the most effective way to create lasting solutions in communities. Education gives girls the skills and confidence to push their dreams, advocate for their rights and contribute to economic growth. Educated girls are more likely to make informed decisions about health matters, delay marriages, career and economic growth, leading to stronger and more resilient societies.
As we advocate for this good course, barriers to education remain a fundamental challenge in most Kenyan communities. Low income families face severe financial challenges, making them prioritize boys’ education over the girl child. In some community’s gender norms are still alive, some which force girls into early marriages and adult chores which hinder their ability to attend school. Lack of menstrual hygiene products and education is a challenge that affects girls making them to miss school on a regular basis leading to a high number of drop outs. Additionally, long distance to schools, a shortage of education materials and inadequate sanitation facilities discourage girls from furthering their education.
My Flow Foundation seeks to address these challenges in a number of ways, through the programs we run. We provide education scholarships to underprivileged girls, we offer mentorship to girls encouraging them to be studious and aspire to excel in school and other areas where they are talented in, we provide menstrual hygiene education and products to ensure that periods do not become a barrier to learning. We also engage parents, teachers and community leaders to change perceptions and promote the value of girls’ education. Equipping girls with skills, knowledge and confidence empowers them to become competent future leaders.
Empowering girls through education is a collective effort and we invite you to be part of the change. You can support our initiative by donating to fund the education program, volunteering to assist in the foundation field works or mentorship, advocating for gender equality or partnering with us to amplify our impact. Every action no matter how small, contributes to building a world where every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
This International Women Day, lets accelerate action by forging for a more inclusive world for girls through quality education.
Happy International Women’s Day 2025.
