Phannie A Kwegah, My Flow Foundation KE – Founder and Managing Director

My Flow Foundation was founded in 2020 by Ms. Phannie A. Kwegah who saw a need during her engagements with girls and women from low income households and informal settlements across the country. Phannie was surprised to learn the true effect of Period Poverty and the impact it has on the development of girls.

While menstruation is a normal part of life, for many girls it has become a shameful and troubling experience due to Period Poverty. These forces those affected to opt for ineffective and often unhealthy solutions to menses including rugs and torn up clothes. Some girls are even forced to skip school due to the shame of lacking proper menstrual material, while others are forced to engage in transactional sex to obtain such resources.

These unfortunate circumstances stirred Phannie to action, as she banded together like-minded individuals with a view to ending period poverty, restoring dignity for underprivileged girls. Phannie has since July 2020 supported over 2,100 girls.

Phannie brought together friends and partners and formalized the work she had been doing into My Flow Foundation in an effort to expand the reach and touch the lives of as many girls in need.
