My-Flow-Foundation-Adopt-A-Girl

It is said that educating girls is the smart and moral thing to do. And we at My Flow Foundation are driven towards empowering girls through among other activities we undertake holistic mentorship and quality education.

We are aware that many girls from vulnerable, marginalized and low income households seldom finish school because of poverty leading them to drop out of school and making them susceptible to early marriages and highly likely be subjected to gender based violence.

In continuing with our vision of empowering girls, we came across one such girl, S, who was reading under car packing security lights at 8.30pm. We set to find out why she was at that place and at that time of the night with all the risk of being outside at that time posed to such a young girl. She is 13.

S, lives with her auntie who runs a food kiosk besides the road and who runs the business till 10.00pm, in her free time-which is time after school, S spends it at the kiosk, assisting her aunty to serve customers. And she sometimes undertakes her homework from their because of intermittent electricity back home and other household chores that hinder her from doing and or concentrating on her school work. They reside in Kibra informal settlements.

We followed up with her school and got to learn of her impressive performance despite the challenges she faces back home and we resolved to get her an environment where her potential can be fully tapped. S is studious, disciplined, resilient, determined and focused and it’s these qualities that we saw in her the first time we saw her that night that bolted us to want to do more for her.

S, started her new reality at a boarding school this term, a school that will bring out the best in her as a student and growing child. We believe with My Flow Foundation’s continued push, mentorship and support she will thrive and be a pride to us, to herself, her teachers and community at large.
